Lightweight filament wound tubes can be safely used at very high external pressures due to water depth, without buckling, to protect internal munitions and stores and to provide a safe launch environment. With a long stable life and good environmental resistance, filament wound tubes are extremely lightweight compared to metal, very robust, easy to handle and cost effective.
